Vocalist Susie Meissner & Her Sextet
Susie Meissner performs jazz with a six-piece ensemble at Chris’ Jazz Cafe. Her singing is characterized by a rich tone and lively, playful phrasing, drawing on the Great American Songbook and her early musical influences, including Ella Fitzgerald and performances by jazz artists such as Earl “Fatha” Hines, Kenny Burrell, and Nancy Wilson.
Meissner grew up in Buffalo, New York, studying piano and voice and participating in choirs, glee clubs, school musicals, and professional local singing groups. Her grandmother’s stride-piano playing and collection of 1920s and 1930s sheet music helped inspire her interest in classic American popular and jazz repertoire.
