The Yellow Canary
The Yellow Canary is a rediscovered 1963 film noir presented as part of NOIR CITY: Philadelphia 2026. Pat Boone plays an arrogant pop singer whose young child is abducted for ransom, while Barbara Eden portrays his wife and Jack Klugman plays the police detective investigating the case. The film features a screenplay by Rod Serling, based on a novel by Whit Masterson, and has been restored digitally by the Film Noir Foundation.
The film is notable for its jazz-pop score, its ensemble of familiar 1960s character actors, and director Buzz Kulik’s early feature work before his television credits included Playhouse 90, The Twilight Zone, Warning Shot, and Brian’s Song.
