Frank Bramblett's Hypothetical Marriage of Monsieur Marcel Duchamp and Miss Helen Keller
Explore and discuss Frank Bramblett’s expansive mirrored double portrait depicting Marcel Duchamp and Helen Keller. The conversation is led by Woodmere docent Paula Suss and places the work within Bramblett’s wide-ranging artistic career, which included experimentation with unconventional materials and changes produced by water, wind, temperature, and movement.
Bramblett grew up in Wedowee, Alabama, earned a BFA from the University of Georgia and an MFA from Yale University, and taught in the Painting and Drawing department at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art for nearly four decades. His honors include support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. His work has been exhibited in Philadelphia, including at Woodmere, as well as at prominent New York galleries.
