Our Sun Is Rising — Our Sun Is Setting
Our Sun Is Rising — Our Sun Is Setting is a group exhibition of artists who live and work in Delaware, presented at The Delaware Contemporary as part of Delaware’s 250th-anniversary observance. Juried by Dr. Morgan Joseph Hamilton and Sara Ganter, the exhibition considers belonging, isolation, disenfranchisement, and the power of the people within the complicated history of the United States.
The exhibition takes its title from the well-known story about Benjamin Franklin wondering whether the half-sun carved into George Washington’s chair was rising or setting. Visitors are invited to consider that question in relation to America today. The show is paired with We Were Always Here in Gallery 5, with the two exhibitions offering different perspectives on a shared history.
