Thomas B. McCabe Lecture

The Thomas B. McCabe Lecture, “Humanity in Jeopardy? A Swattie’s Journey—and a Case for Leadership, Truth, Values, and the Liberal Arts,” features Vivek Varma ’88 in conversation with filmmaker Dawn Porter ’88, H’21. Using a playful, Jeopardy!-inspired format, Varma will discuss the people, experiences, and questions that shaped his views on leadership and responsibility.

The conversation will address contested truth, declining trust in institutions, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Varma will also share stories from his time at Swarthmore, in public service and the technology industry, during his work with Howard Schultz at Starbucks, and through the Schultz Family Foundation’s efforts to broaden opportunities for young people. The lecture is part of Garnet Homecoming & Family Weekend.
