Soojin Choi
Soojin Choi presents a solo exhibition as a resident artist at The Clay Studio. Born and raised in South Korea, Choi has worked in the United States since 2010. Her ceramic practice examines the uncertain, unresolved spaces of human emotion, translating interactions among people, physical environments, and feeling into layered works that move between flat and dimensional surfaces.
Choi uses subtle facial expressions, gazes, gestures, color, and brushwork to convey emotional ambiguity. By building surfaces in clay, she combines varied dimensions and textures to evoke unsettled experiences and invite viewers to approach the emotions embodied in her figures with empathy.
