Lunasa
Lúnasa brings an Irish solstice celebration to The Baby Grand at The Grand Opera House, with special guest vocalist Dave Curley. The ensemble takes its name from Lugh, the ancient Celtic god associated with the arts and the harvest, and is widely regarded as a leading Irish acoustic group.
The band brings together musicians whose careers span some of Ireland’s most respected traditional and contemporary acts. Bassist Trevor Hutchinson formerly performed with The Waterboys and later joined guitarist Donogh Hennessy in The Sharon Shannon Band’s rhythm section. Ed Boyd, known for his work with Flook and the Michael McGoldrick Band, has since taken over the guitar role. Fiddler Sean Smyth is an All-Ireland champion who has performed with Donal Lunny’s Coolfin. Flutist Kevin Crawford, recognized as one of Ireland’s finest, was a member of Moving Cloud, while piper Cillian Vallely has performed with Riverdance and recorded with Bruce Springsteen. Folk Roots has described the group as an Irish traditional-music “dream team.”
