Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons
Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons brings centenarian saxophonist and Sun Ra Arkestra veteran Marshall Allen back to Solar Myth for a Halloween-season performance with an evolving, improvisational ensemble. Now 102, Allen has spent more than six decades with the Arkestra and has led it for over 25 years, while continuing to develop his own voice on alto saxophone and electronic wind instrument.
This edition of Ghost Horizons features drummer Mikel Patrick Avery, multi-reedist and electronic musician Jamal Moore, Arkestra vocalist Tara Middleton, guitarist DM Hotep, and spatial-audio artist Eugene Lew. Their performances will be shaped in real time through Lew’s six-channel spatialized sound system, creating an immersive and constantly changing sonic environment. The ensemble’s earlier Solar Myth appearances helped form the material for Ghost Horizons’ debut album on Otherly Love.
