Small Brown Bike
Small Brown Bike headlines a Johnny Brenda’s show presented by R5 Productions, with The Casket Lottery also on the bill. The Michigan band formed in 1996 and is appearing in connection with the 25th anniversary of its breakthrough album, *Dead Reckoning*, as well as the 30th anniversary of the band’s founding.
Small Brown Bike released four full-length albums along with EPs and singles, earning international attention for *Dead Reckoning* and touring with bands including Hot Water Music, Cursive, Sparta, and Cave In. After releasing *The River Bed* in 2003, the group broke up later that year, reunited in 2006, and returned officially in 2009. Its fourth album, *Fell & Found*, was recorded with producer J Robbins in 2011. The band remained active through 2016 before entering an indefinite hiatus. In 2023, founding member Travis Dopp died following a three-year battle with cancer. In 2026, surviving founding members Mike Reed, Ben Reed, and Dan Jaquint announced these anniversary shows in his honor.
The Casket Lottery’s accompanying material centers on *Feel The Teeth*, an album about exhaustion, disillusionment, personal and collective history, and the search for meaning amid social and political upheaval. The songs explore themes including anxiety, self-preservation, empathy, aging, trauma, and the pressure of everyday survival, with “Nightsong,” “Diamonds,” “Bell Penny,” “Echolalia,” “Snake Dreams,” and “Nothing Certain” specifically cited.
