Black Angel
Black Angel is a 1946 film noir directed by Roy William Neill. June Vincent plays a woman determined to clear Kirk Bennett, who has been condemned for murdering a beautiful actress. She recruits Marty Blair, the victim’s alcoholic, down-and-out pianist husband, and the pair go undercover as a musical act while following clues to a glamorous Sunset Strip nightclub operated by the sinister Marko.
Based on a novel by acclaimed noir writer Cornell Woolrich, the film combines deception, amateur sleuthing, and an unexpectedly dramatic resolution. It features striking production design by Martin Obzina and inventive cinematography by Paul Ivano. The screening is part of NOIR CITY: Philadelphia 2026.
