Aaron Rimbui Trio
Aaron Rimbui leads a classic piano-bass-drums trio at Chris’ Jazz Cafe, blending jazz improvisation with infectious rhythms and melodic ideas drawn from East African musical traditions. The performance features Rimbui on piano, Timothy Norton on bass, and Temitope Idowu on drums.
A Kenyan-born pianist, keyboardist, composer, producer, bandleader, and artistic director now based in New York City, Rimbui has spent two decades shaping East African jazz. He has released four albums, won the 2018 Mzantsi Jazz Award for Best International Collaboration Album for *Kwetu*, and received additional award nominations in 2022 and 2023. His international performance history includes appearances across Europe, more than 40 U.S. states, and Africa, as well as collaborations and performances with Hugh Masekela, Richard Bona, Bobi Wine, Tiwa Savage, and Kirk Whalum. He has also been featured in Spike Lee’s Netflix series *She’s Gotta Have It*. This fall 2026 trio presentation promises groove-driven arrangements, virtuosic piano playing, and unexpected musical exploration.
