A Conversation on John B. Flannagan and Wharton Esherick with Art Historian Katherine Rangoon Doyle
Art historian Katherine Rangoon Doyle leads an online conversation about the connections between sculptors John Bernard Flannagan and Wharton Esherick. Doyle’s 2026 book, *John B. Flannagan: A Salvation in Stone*, is the first comprehensive study of Flannagan, whose stone carving and advocacy for direct carving closely parallel Esherick’s work. The discussion will consider Flannagan’s overlooked legacy, the two artists’ relationships with New York City’s art world and contemporaries, and their differing approaches to modernism.
The program will also explore Doyle’s research, followed by time for audience questions. Advance registration is required to receive instructions for joining the virtual event.
