Apple Pie

Apple Pie is Howard Goldberg’s cult-classic experimental New York fairytale. The film follows gangster Jacques “the Ace” Blinbaum as he recounts his first con: staging his own kidnapping to collect a ransom from his father. As the story moves deeper into fantasy, the identity and reality of the supposed gangster become increasingly uncertain, before the film’s separate narrative threads culminate in a large-scale dance sequence set on New York streets, featuring music by Daryl Hall and John Oates.

The 1976 film stars Tony Azito as Jacques and Brother Theodore as his father. It premiered at the Deauville International Film Festival in France and later became known for midnight screenings around the world. The presentation is co-hosted by Space Melt Cinema.
